Concrete driveway has a fine broom finish and was poured with 3500 psi concrete with re bar and fiber. The old concrete driveway was removed, placed in dumpers, 2x4 forms were set and concrete was poured to form this new driveway. Phoenix dug a 24 deep footer with 2 strands of #4 re bar and then poured a concrete footer for this retaining wall. The retaining wall was backfilled with French drain tile and #57 blue stone. The new retaining wall was built with 8x8x16 block filled with re bar and concrete. The block was then built with face brick and capped with cut Penn. Flagstone. The last step was to wash the retaing wall's brick and flagstone with acid. Phoenix also built a flagstone walkway and patio at this Alexandria address in Fairfax County The first step in a concrete project includes removing any exising concrete slab. After the exising slab is removed the area that needs to be poured must be leveled and graded. The next step in a concrete project is to install the forms and gravel if needed. Ready mixed concrete is then poured into the forms. Concrete that is visible such as patios, driveways, walkways, and slabs needs finishing. After the concrete is poured it is smoothed with a straight edge. Bull floating concrete eliminates low or high spots. Steel floating should not be done until the concrete is floated. Jointing is needed to stop random cracks. Concrete contraction joints are made with a hand groover or can be saw cut after the slab is set. A broom finish on concrete produces a slip resistant surface Exposed aggregate concrete is produced by using a pea gravel After the concrete mix is poured into the forms it is painted with a concrete retarder. This retarder keeps the top 1/8" of the slab from setting up. After the rest of the concrete slab is set we simply power wash off the top 1/8& of cement, leaving a exposed aggregate surface. With most exposed aggregate projects the concrete is also colored to a tan or brown colorStamped concrete is made to resemble ceramic tile, brick, slate, irregular flagstone, or pavers. The base color is used by adding color hardeners to the concrete. The secondary color is cast on color release. The pattern is produced by placing stamps shortly after the concrete is poured. After the stamped concrete pad has set it is power washed and sealed.
