Window and doors are not rated by a “R” rating, the R stands for resentence to heat or cold. Windows and door are rated by a “U” factor. The U-factor measures how well a door or window keeps heat from escaping. The lower the U factor the better a door or windows resistance to heat loss. Many factor make up the rating of your window or door system’s “U” factor. One way to lower the U factor in a thermal window or door’s glass is to insert argon gas within the thermal glass. Argon gas windows are about 6% more energy efficient than windows manufactured without argon gas. Argon gas is a less conductive gas than dead air, or CO2 and will lower the U factor of your new window system. The combination of low E and argon gas will help your window and door system obtain the Energy Star rating that will get you a tax credit. Most of the door and window systems installed by Phoenix Home Services meet the Energy Star ratings of 0.30 or less. Phoenix Home Services is a contractor that installs windows and door in Northern Virginia including the Counties of Fairfax, Arlington, Alexandria, Loudoun County, and Prince William Va.
